Where did you go to school?

I went to college in Spokane, Washington, graduating with a BA in Education from Whitworth University. Later I got my M.Ed in Educational Technology from Lesley University.

How long have you been teaching and what grade levels?

The 2023-24 year will be my 26th year of teaching! I have taught grades 3-5. Right now 5th grade is my favorite. :)

What’s your favorite subject to teach?

My favorite subject to teach is….all of them! Maybe that’s why I teach 5th grade, so I don’t have to pick a favorite; I get to teach them all.

What was your favorite subject when you were in school?

When I was in 5th grade, my favorite subject was math.

Favorite hobby?

In my spare time I love to read, write, and cook. And I love to travel when I get the chance!

Favorite book?

When I was in 5th grade, my favorite book was Mitch & Amy by Beverly Cleary. Now, my favorite 5th grade book is probably Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling. When I’m not reading 5th grade books, I love to read mysteries; Louise Penny and Ruth Ware are two of my favorite authors.

Favorite coffee drink?

I love blended coffees, like frappucinos and granitas.

Who was your favorite teacher & why? OR What made you want to become a teacher?

My favorite teacher in elementary school was my band teacher, Mr Chapin. Even though I started out playing the clarinet, he let me change to the saxophone mid-year, which we technically weren’t supposed to do. He helped me make the change, and really believed in me. I was lucky enough to have him as a teacher in middle school too; he pushed me to try new instruments and join competitions and groups I wouldn’t have otherwise. Because of him, I was pretty sure I was going to be a band teacher.  (But can you imagine the noise? Ha!)

If I had an extra $10 to spend on your classroom, I would buy:

If I had an extra $10 for our classroom, I would buy something for our art carts. Maybe colored sharpies, or gel pens.

If I had an extra $10 to spend on myself, I would buy:

If I had an extra $10 to spend on myself, I’d probably put it in my coffee fund!

If I could pick a gift card to any store/restaurant, I would choose:

I grew up outside of Seattle, and am a Starbucks gal through and through, so I’d choose a giftcard to Starbucks!
