Where did you go to school?
I went to school in Ohio (Miami University - anthropology degree) for undergrad, and Oregon (OSU - MAT in Education) for graduate degree.  But I'm partial to the Buckeyes.....
How long have you been teaching and what grade level?
This will be my 18th year of teaching, all in the Seaside School District!  I have taught both 4th and 5th grade and have looped from 4th to 5th with several classes. (Last year's graduating seniors being one of those classes!)
What's your favorite subject to teach?
Math!  It's like a puzzle to figure out, and I do LOVE puzzles.
What was your favorite subject when you were in school?
Writing because I loved making up stories for my friends.  That and recess.  I loved recess.
Who was your favorite teacher & why? or What made you want to become a teacher?
I have tooooo many favorite teachers to pick just one, so what made me want to become a teacher?......Summers off, of course!  And the added bonus that I love working with students; watching them stretch themselves to become stronger, faster, and kinder humans.
Favorite hobby?
Reading
Favorite book?
Right now?  The Inspector Gamache Series by Louise Penny
Favorite coffee drink?
Americano, splash of cream
If I had an extra $10 to spend on your classroom, I would buy:
Scratch n Sniff Stickers or Expo Dry Erase Markers
If I had an extra $10 to spend on myself, I would buy:
New York Times Crossword Puzzle Books
If I could pick a gift card to any store/restaurant, I would choose:
Seaside Coffee House or Bagels by the Sea

Bio

Ms. Collins has been teaching in the Seaside School District since 2006.  She taught at both Gearhart Elementary and Seaside Heights, and is now proud to be part of the staff at Pacific Ridge Elementary (Go Puffins!).  Over the years, she has taught 4th AND 5th grade and loves them both! When not teaching, she enjoys all that living on the coast has to offer:  clamming, hiking and walks in the rain.   Well, maybe not so much the walks in the rain.....
